The Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) is the biggest literary event in India, drawing over half a million visitors over four vibrant days. Since its inception in 2016, KLF has grown into a global platform for writers, thinkers, and artists. Organized by the DC Kizhakemuri Foundation and co-promoted by DC Books, the festival takes place annually on the scenic beaches of Kozhikode, which holds the distinction of being India's first UNESCO City of Literature.

A Gathering of Great Minds

Recognized as Asia’s largest literary gathering, KLF is renowned for its diverse lineup of speakers. The festival attracts Nobel laureates, Booker Prize winners, Oscar-winning artists, prominent authors, and thought leaders from various disciplines. It serves as a space where literature, culture, and the arts converge. Beyond literary discussions, KLF also features a range of performances, including music, dance, theater, and other artistic expressions. The festival is open to everyone, with free entry, making it an inclusive and accessible event.

KLF 2025: The 8th Edition

The 8th edition of KLF is scheduled to take place from January 23 to 26, 2025. Under the guidance of Festival Director K. Satchidanandan, a respected poet and critic, this edition promises to be as dynamic as ever. Each year, KLF spotlights a Guest Nation to promote cultural exchange. For the 2025 edition, France has been chosen as the Guest Nation, following Turkey, which was featured in the 7th edition.

About the DC Kizhakemuri Foundation

The Kerala Literature Festival is an initiative of the DC Kizhakemuri Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Shri D.C. Kizhakemuri. As a pioneer in Indian publishing and the founder of DC Books, he played a crucial role in promoting literature and education in Kerala. The Foundation organizes various events aimed at fostering arts, culture, and literacy. It also supports the DC School of Management and Technology (DCSMAT), which provides educational opportunities to young learners in India.

The Charm of Calicut: The Perfect Venue

KLF is held in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, a city known for its rich historical and cultural significance. Kozhikode was the landing point of the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama in 1498, making it an important landmark in India’s trade and colonial history. Popularly called the “City of Spices,” Kozhikode has been a center for commerce and literature for centuries.

The festival takes place on the city’s stunning beaches, providing an ideal backdrop for literary discussions, cultural programs, and artistic performances. The combination of literature and nature creates an unparalleled experience for attendees.

DC Books: The Driving Force Behind KLF

DC Books, Kerala’s leading publishing house, is a key promoter of KLF. More than just a publishing company, DC Books is an active cultural organization that fosters intellectual discussions and literary movements. Its commitment to making KLF a truly inclusive event has helped establish the festival as a space for open dialogue and progressive discourse. Thanks to DC Books’ efforts, KLF has evolved into a festival that embraces people from all walks of life and encourages meaningful discussions on literature, art, and contemporary issues.

Children’s Kerala Literature Festival (CKLF): Inspiring Young Minds

In addition to engaging adult audiences, KLF also hosts a special segment dedicated to young readers—the Children's Kerala Literature Festival (CKLF). This event is designed to instill a love for reading in children through storytelling sessions, interactive art workshops, and engaging games. CKLF brings together renowned authors and even Nobel laureates, offering children a unique and inspiring literary experience. By nurturing a passion for books at an early age, CKLF aims to shape the next generation of readers and thinkers.
